Fugug Heritage and Relief Association Corporation is a non-profit organization that was founded in 2012. The initial idea of Fugug was to welcome newcomers, help them with resettlement, integration, and maintain their heritage.
2012: Fugug was founded with the mission to facilitate the integration of newcomers into Canadian society.
2014: We started sponsoring refugees as a group of 5.
2016: We welcomed our first refugee.
2019: Fugug expanded its operations by opening a heritage school and sponsoring refugees under the Blended Visa Office-Referred (BVOR) program. This was also the year we were incorporated.
2020: We became community sponsors.
2021: We became a Sponsorship Agreement Holder. In the last two years, we have sponsored 50 people.
Fundraising: We organize various fundraising activities. For example, we run a FUNDrive where we collect gently used clothes to raise funds for our cause. We also raise funds through SARCAN Recycling, where our volunteers sell cans and bottles donated by Fugug members.
Community Gatherings: We host several community gatherings throughout the year. Some of the key events include the celebration of Eids, World Refugee Day, and New Year.
COVID-19 Response: During the COVID-19 pandemic, we successfully helped vulnerable people by providing many different services including settlement, youth activities, and community activities.
Youth Sports and Activities: We organize sports and other activities for the youth, especially during the summer.
